Genline FamilyFinder 2 Upgrade
In our continuing efforts to improve our service, Genline will be releasing a new version of the Genline FamilyFinder 2 for Windows (GFF2) on Tuesday, October 14th at 4 AM Eastern Standard Time.
GFF 2.4 will automatically update to GFF 2.5 when you start the GFF program the first time after the update. The update may take a few minutes depending upon your Internet connection speed.
Summary of Changes and New Features
- Option to change between two user interface colors
- The addition of the special Swedish characters that allows one to copy the special characters in the place name field within the GIDx search
- Option to limit the GIDx search by to year and from year
What is GIDx?
GIDx is a concept for Genline which is the "indexing" of the Swedish Church Records archive down to the "Genline ID number" (GID) or image. The purpose of the GIDx is to provide searchable complementary information such as parish, village, or farm name that is related to a particular GID number or image.
GIDx is a feature in Genline FamilyFinder which allows the user to search the GIDx content that is in the Swedish Church Records archive.
The first GIDx content that was published in the Swedish Church Records archive is from the SCB material (Swedish Church Records between 1860 and 1897). Gradually the farms and villages in the household examination books are being added to the index. GIDx Entries lists the parishes where the farms and villages have been indexed.
For more information on how to use the GFF2 with GIDx and other features within GFF2, see the Genline FamilyFinder 2 User Guide.

Genline FamilyFinder 2 Upgrade
In our continuing efforts to improve our service, Genline will be releasing a new version of the Genline FamilyFinder 2 for Windows (GFF2) on Wednesday, September 5th at 4 AM Eastern Standard Time.
GFF 2.3 will automatically update to GFF 2.4 when you start the GFF program the first time after the update. The update may take a few minutes depending upon your Internet connection speed.
Summary of Changes and New Features
- Windows Vista compatible
- Updated user interface with Genline's new logo and graphic profile
- Introduction of GIDx
What is GIDx?
GIDx is a new concept for Genline which is the "indexing" of the Swedish Church Records archive down to the "Genline ID number (GID) or image. The purpose of the GIDx is to provide searchable complementary information such as parish, village, or farm name that is related to a particular GID number or image.
GIDx is a new feature in Genline FamilyFinder which allows the user to search the GIDx content that is in the Swedish Church Records archive.
The first GIDx content published in the Swedish Church Records archive is from the SCB Material (Swedish Church Records from 1860). This means that it is now much easier to locate a parish in a SCB sequence by using a GIDx search within GFF2.4.
SCB Parish Search Using GIDx
Below is an example on how to locate a parish in a SCB sequence by using the GIDx search feature within GFF2.4.
- Click on the GIDx search button in the search window
- GIDx search window opens
- Select county, Skaraborg
- Select parish, scb_Skaraborg
- Enter Kestad in place field
- Click Search
You will see the results of all SCB GID numbers containing a reference for Kestad.
Look for the GID number referencing the parish, Kestad births 1872.
- Select the GID number and the image of the first page for the births in Kestad for 1872 will appear
We are certain that you will enjoy the new GIDx search feature that allows you to search the SCB records more easily.
For more information on how to use the GFF2 with GIDx and other features within GFF2, see the Genline FamilyFinder 2 User Guide.

99.9% of film rolls scanned!
genline is celebrating!
After 5 years of production genline has now scanned 99.9% of the church book film rolls that have been made available to us from the Swedish National Archives.
We have now published 113956 volumes from 2710 parishes from the 25 Swedish counties available in the Swedish Church Records archive. This amounts to over 16057739 million images.
We are aware that there are still some missing volumes in the Swedish Church Records archives. In some cases the film lists that we have purchased from the Swedish National Archives have not been accurate and genline is trying to locate the missing material.
Parallel to this, our production staff has started to check the volumes in the Swedish Church Records archive to verify that they have been published correctly.
Many of our customers have been very helpful in pointing out discrepancies. We encourage any information regarding missing material or volumes that have been published incorrectly. If you come across any discrepancies, feel free to send a description including the GID number to felrapport@genline.se

Genline FamilyFinder 2 Upgrade
In our continuing efforts to improve our service genline has released a new version of the Genline FamilyFinder 2 (GFF2).
GFF 2.2 will automatically update to GFF 2.3 when you start the GFF program the first time after the update. The update may take a few minutes depending upon your Internet connection speed.
Note - There are no changes for the Genline FamilyFinder Plugin (the older browser-based version of Genline FamilyFinder) or Mac versions.
Below you will find a summary of the changes and new features included in the release:
- Capability to select an option to automatically search for sequences once a parish selection has been made versus clicking on the search button.
- Capability to enter more than 72 characters in the "Free Text" or comments field in the print dialogue.
- Time-Out Control feature for institutional customers using IP authentication. IP users can extend the amount of time before being automatically logged out of the Swedish Church Records archive due to inactivity.
- Connection between DISPOS and GFF2. DISPOS is a service where DIS (Computer Genealogy Society of Sweden) members can reference genealogical source material on the Internet. See the DIS website for more information about DISPOS.
- GFF 2.3 will work for Windows 98 users. Windows 98 users will no longer need to use the parameter "21w98" to access GFF2. To access the new release, Windows 98 users using GFF2 should remove the "21w98" parameter. After removing this parameter, GFF2 will automatically upgrade to GFF 2.3 when the program is started.
If you need to reconfigure your firewall settings to allow the GFF2 update to occur, see: Troubleshooting Genline FamilyFinder 2 for more information.

genline now available at the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center
genline is now available at the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center
at Augustana College in Illinois. The Swenson Center is a national archives,
library, and research institute for the study of Swedish immigration to North
America. It is located at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, a selective,
independent college of the liberal arts and sciences, with a strong academic
emphasis on Scandinavian studies.
"genline will be an important complement to our many resources for the
study of Swedish immigration history in general and, in particular, for Swedish-American
genealogy," says Dag Blanck, director of the Swenson Center. These other
resources include microfilmed records of over 2,500 Swedish-American churches,
fraternal organizations, and newspapers established by Swedish immigrants in
North America. In addition, the Center has extensive collections of personal
papers, photos, and a more than 15,000 volume library that is highly-specialized
in the field.
The Swenson Center's subscription is available to use only certain
times of the week, and reservations are required. Please see the Center's web

Download Genline FamilyFinder 2.0!
A new version of Genline FamilyFinder for Windows (GFF2) is now available for
download from genline. We recommend that you upgrade to GFF 2.0 seeing
as at some point in the future we will no longer be supporting the older GFF
plugin version. GFF 2.0 has a lot of new functionality which will make searching
genline's Swedish Church Records archive easier for you.
GFF 2.0 is a separate program and is not dependent upon on a web browser. The
program can be downloaded from genline's web site in the Genline
FamilyFinder section and should be installed according to the instructions.
You start GFF 2.0 from the Start-menu and not with the Log In button on genline's
web site.
One of the improvements in GFF 2.0 is the possibility to save pages as bookmarks
to make it easier and faster to return to a page you have looked at before and
if you want to compare information from different pages you can now have several
image windows open simultaneously. You can also add more information to your
prints, both GID Number, county name, parish name and your own free text can
be added as a heading on the print. There is also a built-in beginners help
in the program which introduces you to using GFF 2.0.

genline - Now Available in Raleigh, North Carolina
genline is now available at the Olivia Raney Local History Library
in Raleigh, North Carolina. The library has a collection of over 18,000 items
that are primarily local and family history oriented. For the genealogist, there
is a variety of resources covering both American and international geographical
areas.
While the library's focus is on local history and the use of local history resources
to provide historical context for genealogists, many new residents of Wake County
come from Sweden and parts of the United States that were originally settled
by Swedes. The difficulty of researching Swedish records from afar has often
been an impediment to Swedish American genealogists. The library is attracting
Scandinavian family researchers with classes ranging from basic genealogy to
immigration records and the use of Genline. No longer will Swedish-Americans
sing the "Lutefisk Lament" because they don't know where great-grandpa
Bengt emigrated from or if they did, how to find out why he left. Genline offers
a unique opportunity to these new library patrons to sail home again.

genline is now available in Lindsborg, Kansas
genline is now available at the McPherson County Old Mill
Museum in Lindsborg, Kansas. Lindsborg, in the Smoky Valley region of north
central Kansas, sits amid a number of communities settled by Swedish immigrants
in the 1860's. Today many colorful events celebrating Swedish heritage take
place throughout the year in Lindsborg. Svensk Hyllningsfest is a biennial tribute
to Swedish pioneers that will occur on October 7, 8, 9, 2005.
The McPherson County Old Mill Museum collects and preserves materials related
to the region's heritage in which the Swedes play a significant role. Among
the historical buildings at the museum is the 1904 World's Fair Swedish Pavilion.
The building is included in the National Register of Historic Places. In 1976
King Carl XVI Gustaf rededicated the building to all Swedes and Swedish Americans.
The museum's archives contain county records and genealogical resources. The
staff regularly sponsors genealogy workshops and sees an increased interest
in Swedish genealogy. "We work with people to find information on relatives
who lived in this area," states Lorna Nelson, the museum's director. "With genline, we can now offer many of those researchers an immediate "bridge
across the ocean" to Swedish records as well. genline is a tremendous
resource we are excited to have available."

Discover your roots during a trip to Sweden!

Have you ever dreamed about traveling to Sweden to discover your Swedish roots
and maybe meet relatives that you have never seen before, but you don't really
know how to plan the trip or where to go? genline can now turn your
dream into reality because in 2005 you'll be able to make a trip to Sweden where
you can use your vacation to search your Swedish roots in the archives or to
spend time together with family members you have already found through your
research.
Genline FamilyTravel will organize a trip from North America to Sweden in the
summer of 2005. We are still working on all the details but would already now
like to know how many people who are interested in making this trip. It will
most likely include one week which is common for all travelers and then you
can add a second week where you will be able to travel around Sweden on your
own and visit relatives and/or archives or other places you find interesting.
During this second week you'll be able to get assistance from our partners around
Sweden.
If this sounds like something you want to be part of, please send an e-mail
to travel@genline.com and let us know
that you are interested in a trip to Sweden. This e-mail is not a booking, only
a notification of your interest.
Please include in the e-mail where you live so we can estimate from which airports
we will have passengers. We would also appreciate if you tell us where in Sweden
your ancestors came from and where your currently living relatives reside (if
you have that information). This is to get an idea where people would like to
go once they arrive in Sweden. We are also interested in knowing if you would
like to stay in Sweden one week or two weeks and we appreciate suggestions about
what you would like to see in Sweden, places you would like to visit etc.
As soon as we have more details, they will be published here. We will also
get back to you with more information if you have sent us an e-mail telling
us you are interested in making the trip.
If you would like to travel to Sweden but don't know anything about your Swedish
roots, you have several options. You can buy a subscription
at genline and start researching online from your home. You can also
get help with the research. We have a professional researcher, Anneli Andersson,
who performs Genealogy Research for our customers.
She can help you find out where in Sweden your great-grandmother was born, or
where your distant cousins live today.
Another option is that you wait until you come to Sweden and use some of your
time here to visit different archives and search for your ancestors and family
there. Or why not try a combination of these three possibilities!

Swedish reference CDs to their product list. Check back with the eShop often,

being successful in your search for your own Swedish Roots! Products are in English
and may be purchased in US or Canadian currencies.

genline at the Waco-McLennan County Library
genline is now available in the Genealogy Department at the Waco-McLennan
County Library (1717 Austin Ave) in Waco, Texas. Bill Buckner, manager of
the Periodicals/Genealogy Division, states, "By having genline as
a resource, the library is providing a valuable tool to the Swedish-Americans
in the community that will enable them to discover their past and preserve their
heritage."
This commitment to service and heritage is shared by The Nordic Clubs of Waco
(Scandinavian Friends, Forsgard-Olson Vasa Lodge #757, Forsgard-Olson Heritage
Society, and Sons of Norway, Canuteson-Reierson Lodge #1-660.) who have enthusiastically
supported the addition of genline to the Library's resources. For more
information, call Bill Buckner at 254/750-5945. The Nordic Clubs of Waco are located
at 1028 N. 4th St., Waco, Texas 254/296-1857.
The city of Waco hosts the annual Viking Fest which celebrates over 150 years
of Nordic Cultural History in Texas. Each year, this event attracts more than
five thousand people honoring the beginning of the Scandinavian immigration to
Texas. The 2005 Festival will be April 22-24, 2005.
